Shock Breakout in Dense Circumstellar Material with Application to PS1-13arp

چکیده

Abstract Shock breakout (SBO), the first expected electromagnetic signature of a supernova (SN), can be an important probe progenitors these explosions. Unfortunately, SBO is difficult to capture with current surveys due its brief timescale (≲1 hr). However, may lengthened when dense circumstellar material (CSM) present. Indeed, recent photometric modeling studies SNe, as well early spectroscopy, suggest that such CSM present more often than previously expected. If true, this should also affect features SBO. We exploration impact interaction on width and luminosity using both analytic numerical modeling, where we parameterize steady-state wind. then compare PS1-13arp, SN showed UV excess has been argued in CSM. find PS1-13arp fit wind mass ∼0.08 M ⊙ radius ∼1900 R , parameters which are similar to, if not slightly less massive than, what have inferred for Type II SNe modeling. This similarity suggests future observations easier obtain appreciated.

Unifying Type II Supernova Light Curves with Dense Circumstellar Material

A longstanding problem in the study of supernovae (SNe) has been the relationship between the Type IIP and Type IIL subclasses. Whether they come from distinct progenitors or they are from similar stars with some property that smoothly transitions from one class to another has been the subject of much debate. Here we show using one-dimensional radiation-hydrodynamic SN models that the multi-ban...

in dense circumstellar gas

We propose a simple model for the bolometric light curve of type Ia supernova exploding in a dense circumstellar (CS) envelope to describe the light curves of supernovae 2002ic and 1997cy. The modeling shows that at the radius ∼ 7×10 15 cm the density of CS envelopes around both supernovae is similar. The mass of the CS envelope around SN 1997cy is close to 5 M ⊙ , while the characteristic time...

Shock Breakout in Type Ibc Supernovae and Application to GRB 060218/SN 2006aj

Recently, a soft black-body component was observed in the early X-ray afterglow of GRB 060218, which was interpreted as shock breakout from the thick wind of the progenitor Wolf-Rayet (WR) star of the underlying Type Ic SN 2006aj. In this paper we present a simple model for computing the characteristic quantities (including energy, temperature, and time-duration) for the transient event from th...

Grb060218: a Relativistic Supernova Shock Breakout

We show that the prompt and afterglow X-ray emission of GRB060218, as well as its early (t 1 d) optical-UV emission, can be explained by a model in which a radiation-mediated shock propagates through a compact progenitor star into a dense wind. The prompt thermal X-ray emission is produced in this model as the mildly relativistic shock, β ≈ 0.85 carrying few ×10 49 erg, reaches the wind (Thomso...

Supernova shock breakout from a red supergiant.

Massive stars undergo a violent death when the supply of nuclear fuel in their cores is exhausted, resulting in a catastrophic "core-collapse" supernova. Such events are usually only detected at least a few days after the star has exploded. Observations of the supernova SNLS-04D2dc with the Galaxy Evolution Explorer space telescope reveal a radiative precursor from the supernova shock before th...
